Two scorecards, published weights, never combined
Every property in this guide receives a hotel score and a casino score, each out of ten. Here is exactly how they are built.
Why two scores
A grand hotel and the casino next door are different businesses with different strengths. Some share an owner, as with the Barrière properties in Deauville and Cannes; others do not. Merging them into one number would reward a fine spa for a mediocre gaming floor, or the reverse. So we keep them apart, and we never average them into a combined rating.
The hotel scorecard
Each hotel is rated from 0 to 10 on five criteria. The hotel score is the weighted average, rounded to one decimal place.

| Service | 25% | Arrival, concierge knowledge, housekeeping consistency and how the house handles requests outside the script, including late returns from the casino. |
| Dining & bars | 20% | Breakfast standards, the ambition and consistency of the main restaurants, and whether there is a bar worth lingering in before or after the tables. |
| Spa & wellness | 15% | Pools, thermal and treatment facilities, fitness provision and the calm of the spaces. |
| Setting & town | 15% | The walk to the casino, the promenade or park, the quality of the resort town and how easily it can be enjoyed on foot. |
The casino scorecard
Each casino is rated from 0 to 10 on five criteria of its own. The casino score is calculated the same way, from these weights only. A fifth of every casino score depends on player protection.

| Table standards & limits | 20% | Croupier craft, wheel types (single-zero is the baseline we expect), the spread of minimums from accessible to salon privé, and how clearly limits are posted. |
| Atmosphere & comfort | 15% | Noise, crowding, air quality, seating, bars and restaurants, and how the dress code shapes the evening. |
| Player protection & transparency | 20% | Clarity of entry rules, ID registration, access to national or operator exclusion systems, visible responsible-gambling information and staff training. |

How we research
Reviews combine editorial visits, the properties’ and casinos’ own published information (house rules, entry conditions, game lists), regulators’ and governments’ public guidance, and reputable press coverage. Facts that we could not confirm from a primary source are hedged in the text. We re-check entry ages, fees and dress codes whenever we update a review.
What a score is not
A casino score is not a recommendation to gamble and says nothing about your chances of winning. The house edge of each game is fixed by its rules and applies equally everywhere. A high score means a better-run, more beautiful and better-protected place to play for adults who have already chosen to do so.
